The Prairie Pothole

What happens when a visionary decides he wants to control the water to his crops, even when he has a wet field, no tile, and is surrounded by interstate and municipalities with nowhere to drain the excess water? Enter the prairie pothole. Jason Webster with Precision Planting and PTI (Precision Technology Institute) explains how they turned land that was very wet with no tile into a well drained field with irrigation water storage. Sometimes, you have to think outside the box...or in this case, inside a puddle!

In the pictures below, you can see the "prairie pothole" before, during and after creation of the irrigation pond. All the tile water drains into this area where it is held until irrigation season.
